Board of Supervisors pass Mandatory Mediation Ordinance

On Tuesday December 12, 2017, the Marin County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed mandatory mediation procedures for rent increases above 5% in unincorporated areas of the county. The mediation requirement is also triggered if a landlord "reduces services by 5%". Property owners in unincorporated Marin are required to notify tenants of the new ordinance no later than February 12, 2018.

The ordinance empowers tenants to sue landlords to guarantee compliance. For more information, please see the following article from the Marin Independent Journal : marin-landlords-to-enter-mediation-before-hiking-rents .
