"Just Cause Eviction" Ordinances recommended by Marin CDA

An informational workshop regarding Fair Housing was hosted by the Marin County Board of Supervisors on the evening of June 12, 2018. Various members of staff, local agencies, and the public spoke and expressed their views.

Liz Darby, Social Equity Program Policy Coordinator of the Marin Community Development Agency, presented a progress report on the Fair Housing Work Plan to Identify Barriers to Fair Housing Choice.

The CDA report and attachments are available here (under Item 19.)
The CDA report concluded with two recommendations:

1. Just Cause for Eviction Recommendation
Board of Supervisors to vote in 2018 on a Just Cause for Eviction ordinance to provide renter protections and education for renters, landlords, realtors and businesses in Marin; and to provide support to cities and towns for local implementation of Just Cause for Eviction ordinances.

2. Housing Oversight Committee Recommendation
Develop a Housing Oversight Committee that includes members of the public, representatives from all cities and towns, mayors, Aides to the Board of Supervisors, professional realtors and investors, landlords, Mann Housing Authority, Marin Community Foundation, Marin Economic Forum, Office of Education, Fair Housing of Northern California, homeowners and renters, and members of the protected classes, to develop policies and practices that affirmatively further fair housing, and to develop model ordinances for cities and towns. Utilize existing committees including Mann Community Housing Action Team (MCHAT), the Landlord Incentive Program, the Marin Community Foundation Acquisition team, among others, to develop a collaborative process for the Housing Oversight Committee.

The Marin Rental Property Association recognizes significant drawbacks to so-called "Just Cause Eviction" ordinances.  Please join the Marin Rental Property Association and participate in our meetings to discuss these and similar issues.
